Contrary to what some may believe computer power issues seem to be very common in the IT world. Sometime these power problems are serious and can mean it’s time for a new machine, but on some occasions the problem may not be as serious as some of us may think. Before you contact your local computer repair company let’s attempt a few troubleshooting steps.

First, attempt to power on the machine and look for some sort of activity on the front of your box. You may see green, yellow or red led activity; listen for fan or hard drive activity. If there no activity here is a series of steps you can take before calling that computer repair guy. Make sure your machine is
  • Plugged into the power socket
  • If your machine is (which it should be) plugged into a surge protector make sure the proctor is in its on state.
  • The power cable is connected securely to back of the PC.
  • Some power supplies have an on and off switch, if so make sure the Power switch is turned on. This will be on the back of the computer near the power cord..
You can swap out the power cord if you want, but a bad power cord is very rare.

Once you complete the steps mentioned above attempt to power on your machine again. If you still receive no power. Look on the back of your machine toward the top to see if you have a GREEN led. Some power supplies have GREEN L.E.D.S to let you know if the power supply is receiving power. If none of the above steps resolves your issue and you’re GREEN led is not lit contact your local Computer Repair Guy.
